CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (Sept. 28, 2017) — DC BLOX, an Edge-enabled data center developer and operator, recently expanded into Chattanooga. Today the Atlanta-based company celebrated the grand opening of its Chattanooga data center location. Elected officials, customers and community members gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony and exclusive tours of the data center. DC BLOX plans to develop Edge-enabled data centers throughout the Southeast.
“We are creating the data center platform for the future,” said Jeff Uphues, Chief Executive Officer for DC BLOX. “By connecting our agile data centers with high capacity light speed optical networks, we are positioned to meet the demands of the emerging technologies on the Edge. Expanding into the ‘Gig City’ was an easy decision because of Chattanooga’s smart power grid and access to main fiber lines.”
DC BLOX has invested more than $10 million in the local economy since expanding to Chattanooga. The company experienced rapid growth in the past six months, taking on regional clients including Mohawk, EPB and Conversant.
“With hundreds of locations globally, we needed a modern data center to handle our Disaster Recovery needs,” said Jevin Jensen, VP Global Infrastructure for Mohawk. “The DC BLOX location in Chattanooga provides a geographically diverse location while still being within driving distance for our key IT staff. Knowing our company’s data is not only secure but close enough for us reach at any time has given us peace of mind, while allowing Mohawk to continue to grow and serve our customers.”
The expansion into Chattanooga allows businesses in surrounding cities like Atlanta, Knoxville and Nashville to benefit from Chattanooga’s Gig. The above-average Internet speed in Chattanooga—introduced by EPB Fiber Optics and leveraged by DC BLOX—is utilized by residents and businesses in the city. With regional industries utilizing DC BLOX’s services, Chattanooga benefits from continued economic growth.
